Roaches

If you think that cockroaches only inhabit filthy homes, you are sadly mistaken. These highly-resistant creatures have been around for more than 300 million years, long before humans. Once humans inhabited the planet, roaches knew they had a dependable food source. Since then, roaches have followed humans where ever they have expanded and now the urban jungle is their natural habitat. In all honesty, not even the cleanest house is immune.

  • Cockroaches are remarkable creatures. They can cover 50 times their body length in 1 second. That is like a human running 180 miles per hour.
  • German cockroaches will eat just about anything, from crumbs to cardboard.
  • Roaches can go for long periods of time without food and if separated from its head, the roach body can go on living for several weeks until it finally dies of dehydration.
  • In the US, the German cockroach is the most common roach found in homes, apartment houses, restaurants, and hotels. German cockroaches (eggs included), are "brought in", usually on our belongings, luggage, boxes or packages. By bringing in just one egg capsule, you can go from one roach to a houseful in less than a couple of weeks.
  • With our urban way of life, we have created an ideal environment for cockroaches to breed in, and now we are seeing legions of cockroaches, multiplying at an alarming rate.
  • Roaches make great test subjects for insecticides, because if a product can kill a roach, it can take out anything on 6 legs, and nobody cares what happens to the test roaches. The experts at Yosemite Pest Control can eliminate your roach infestation.
    • Traps – Pheromone traps are poison free and will not harm children or pets.
    • Bait – s a modern pest control alternative used for the extermination of cockroaches at indoor locations. The effectiveness of this method of pest control exploits the cannibalistic tendencies of cockroaches. Cockroaches live in nests. As such, killing a few roaches that happen to wander into a trap is an inadequate means of controlling the pest. Even if all adult roaches outside the nest are killed, some live eggs will remain in the nest and eventually hatch, leading to an exponential growth problem. Our knowledgeable team understand the roach’s instinct and will set up baits and traps that are effective and efficient.
    • Non-toxic Remedies – We have a variety of “Green” options to help rid your home of cockroaches. We will spray the cracks, floorboards, crevices, corners and carpets to reach the cockroaches and kill their eggs.

Bed Bugs

If you’ve tuned in to the news just once over the past year, you’ve heard about the bed bug infestation in our Nation’s hotels. Just the name can bring chills down your spine. When you were a child, did your parents say “Good night, don’t let the bed bugs bite”? And they expected us to sleep? But what are bed bugs? Bed bugs are small, oval, non-flying insects that belong to the insect family Cimicidae, which includes three species that bite people. Adult bed bugs reach 5-7 mm in length, while nymphs (juveniles) are as small as 1.5 mm. Bed bugs have flat bodies and may sometimes be mistaken for ticks or small cockroaches. Bed bugs feed by sucking blood from humans or animals. Adult bed bugs are reddish brown in color, appearing more reddish after feeding on a blood meal. Nymphs are clear in color and appear bright red after feeding. The wings of bed bugs are vestigial, so they cannot fly. Yosemite Pest Control has many methods to make your home bed bug free:

    • First and foremost, the YPC team will inspect your home to determine if you have a bed bug problem. They will look for shells, fecal stains and egg cases that hide in the cracks of your beds, mattresses and sofas.
    • Getting rid of bed bugs is not an easy process, and requires treatment by a pest-control expert. A variety of low-odor sprays, dusts, and aerosol insecticides can be used to eradicate bed bugs. These must be applied to all areas where the bugs are observed as well as spaces where they may crawl or hide. YPC can help you determine if the mattress can be disinfected or must be discarded. Since beds cannot readily be treated with insecticides, it's often necessary to discard infested mattresses and beds.
    • We may recommend certain forms of deep-cleaning such as scrubbing infested surfaces with a stiff brush to remove eggs, dismantling bed frames and furniture, filling cracks in floors, walls, and moldings, encasing mattresses within special bags, or using a powerful vacuum on cracks and crevices.
    • At any rate, Yosemite Pest Control can determine if you have a bed bug infestation and what the best solution would be.
